What is a wax melt and how does it work?

A wax melt is a scented piece of wax (often molded into cubes, snaps, or shapes) without a wick. You place a cube into the dish of an electric or tealight wax warmer. As the wax gently melts, it releases high-intensity fragrance into the air without any open flame.

How many wax cubes should I use at once?

For most standard warmers, 1 to 2 cubes (about 0.5 to 1 oz) is ideal. Be careful not to overfill the melting dish, as liquid wax expands slightly and can spill if overloaded.

How long does the fragrance last?

Fragrance longevity depends on the scent profile and warmer temperature, but on average, a single cube provides 8 to 12 hours of continuous scent throw. A standard 6-cube clamshell typically delivers 48 to 72 total hours of fragrance.

Does the wax disappear as it burns?

No. Unlike candles, where the wax burns off with the wick, wax melt wax stays in the dish. Only the fragrance oil evaporates. Once you can no longer smell the scent after heating, the spent wax should be discarded and replaced with fresh cubes.

Are wax melts safer than traditional candles?

Yes! Because there is no open flame, smoke, or soot, electric wax warmers eliminate major fire hazards—making them a safer choice for households with children, curious pets, or strict flame-free housing rules.

How do I safely remove old wax from my warmer?

• Cotton Ball Method (Liquid): While the warmer is off but the wax is still liquid, drop 2–3 cotton balls into the dish to soak up the wax, then wipe clean with a paper towel.

• Pop-Out Method (Solid): Turn the warmer on for 1–2 minutes just to loosen the bottom layer. Gently press the edge of the wax block with your thumb, and it will slide right out.

Tip: Never use metal knives or sharp objects to scrape cold wax out, as this can crack or chip ceramic dishes.

What type of tealights should I use if I don't have an electric warmer?

Always use unscented, 4-hour tealights. Avoid 8-hour tealights, as prolonged extreme heat can overheat the ceramic dish, causing the wax to burn off its scent too quickly or damage the unit.

Storage & Quality

How should I store my unused wax melts?

Keep your wax melts in a cool, dry, and dark place away from direct sunlight, windows, and direct heat sources. Proper storage keeps the wax structurally sound and preserves the potency of the fragrance oils.

Do wax melts expire?

Wax melts don't "expire" in a traditional sense, but fragrance oils can gradually fade over time. For the strongest hot throw, we recommend using your wax melts within 12 months of purchase.
